Hotel Review: Mr. Jordaan Hotel | Amsterdam

Hotel Review: Mr. Jordaan Hotel | Amsterdam

Meeting friends for an extended weekend in Amsterdam, the Mr. Jordaan Hotel would be my place to rest my head. Lodging in Amsterdam is notably pricey but the Mr Jordaan hotel offered a reasonable rate for a top rated hotel at about $190 USD a night. That’s an overall good rate for Amsterdam Centrum based on my general research. I checked out a couple Airbnbs but didn’t find any great deals.

Location: 5 of 5 Stars – The location of the Mr. Jordaan Hotel was one of the best features of the hotel. It’s set off in the quiet yet central Jordaan neighborhood. It’s a short walk to some of the most popular tourist sites yet it avoids the hectic crowds of other Amsterdam Centrum neighborhoods. Plus, there are lots of great cafes and shops in the immediate neighborhood.

Service: 4 of 5 Stars – The staff at the Mr. Jordaan Hotel were extremely friendly and welcoming. While this property is rather no-frills, the staff was always eager to assist with any request. The front desk is staffed 24/7 and I often saw the same familiar faces throughout my stay.

Comfort: 3 of 5 Stars – I stayed in a “Happy Single” room which is quite small to be honest; even by European standards. It was just myself so I didn’t need much room but the bed everything about the room was….well….compact. There was limited storage space and the bathroom was the size of a postage stamp.

Cleanliness: 5 of 5 Stars – The hotel grounds were tidy and well kept. The room was exceptionally clean which I can appreciate. If a hotel gets one thing right, it should be cleanliness in my book.

Restaurant/Dining: N/A – I can’t rate the quality of the hotel breakfast or the service related to food as I didn’t partake. An onsite breakfast is offered in the communal area downstairs for €17.50 which I’d consider high for a standard hotel breakfast. Complimentary beverages are offered 24/7 however.

Overall Rating: 4 of 5 Stars – I overall felt satisfied with the value for my stay at the Mr. Jordaan Hotel in Amsterdam. While I wasn’t thrilled with the mediocre comfort of the small room, the staff was friendly and the location was hard to beat. I’m uncertain if I’ll stay here again but if you’re looking for an affordable and clean option in Amsterdam Centrum, the Mr. Jordaan Hotel is worth considering.
