How about a free checked bag on WOW Air to Iceland?

Is Iceland on your travel to-do list? WOW Air is one of the most talked about airlines these days. They’re most known for their rapid expansion of dirt-cheap flights to Iceland and one-stop flights to the rest of Europe from the US. And while the low fares are enticing, only a small personal item is included in the base ticket fare. The baggage fees for overhead bin space and check bags quickly adds up, evaporating the appeal of WOW’s low fares.

Well this morning, WOW Air released a 24 hour promotion, offering a free checked bags to Iceland this summer.

Per the email campaign from WOW Air:

One checked bag is included with your ticket price and is automatically added in the booking process if you book your trip before 11 am GMT, Friday, June 23rd, 2017. The offer only applies to new bookings.

THE OFFER IS AVAILABLE FOR FLIGHTS TO ICELAND FROM THE FOLLOWING CITIES:

Travel period: July – November 10th 2017: Miami, Los Angeles, Pittsburgh, San Francisco

Travel period: July – August 2017: Chicago

This is an enticing promotion but it apply mostly to summer flights which will likely mean higher fares. Still, considering that WOW AIr’s baggage fees are quite high, it could easy save two travelers with one bag at least $200 USD. Checked bags start at 49.99 USD each way and increase from there, depending on if you pay for the bag at booking, at check-in, or at the gate.

I haven’t flown WOW Air yet myself but I know lots of folks who have. I’m eager to get to Iceland soon but WOW Air certainly has a lot of negative feedback for their no-frills service and so-so customer service.
